Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the Awami League, stated on Tuesday that the "evil forces called BNP" must be battled in order to preserve the Liberation War and democracy in Bangladesh.

He made this statement after paying respects to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib on her ninth birthday at the Banani cemetery in Dhala.

Obaidul Quader claimed that the killing of Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975, and the grenade attack on August 21, 2004, in which Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the principal target, marked the beginning of the politics of murder and conspiracy in this nation.

“Twenty-three lives were lost, including Ivy Rahman. BNP is the party behind all this past. This group is the mastermind of the murders and conspiracies in Bangladesh,” he added.

Regarding Bangamata, Obaidul Quader said: “Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib is one of the most remarkable women in our history. Today is her 93rd birthday. She was a very close friend of Bangabandhu. She inspired and strengthened Bangabandhu during the crisis and motivated him to move forward.”

Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be honored across all of Bangladesh on Tuesday as she turns 93 years old.

On August 8, 1930, Bangamata, also known by her pet name Renu, was born in the Gopalganj hamlet of Tungipara. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the husband's paternal cousin, was her relation.

In 1938, Renu married Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was just 18 years old at the time. She was only 8 years old.

At Bangabandhu's Dhanmondi 32 residence, he said that Begum Mujib was in charge of initiating the process of rehabilitating the downtrodden women.

She gathered some distinguished women of society and held meetings at Dhanmondi 32 residence to decide how to cooperate with the government and extend support to Bangabandhu in rehabilitating the group of women.
