BNP Men Begin Road March from Nayapaltan

To demand Khaleda Zia's release and better medical treatment for the party's leadership, BNP officials and supporters started a road march today, August 19, from the Nayapaltan area in the city.

The march, which began at three o'clock in front of the BNP's Nayapaltan headquarters, was organized by the BNP's Dhaka south and north sections.  

Leaders and activists could be seen screaming for Khaleda Zia's rescue.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to appear on the show as well as members of the party committee, executives from several professional organizations, and leaders and staff from various organs at all levels.

Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the area based on the programme.

The BNP had threatened to announce tougher programmes if the government did not allow its ailing party chief Khaleda Zia to go abroad for receiving advanced treatment.

"The people of Bangladesh will not remain silent if steps are not taken immediately to ensure the treatment of our leader Begum Khaleda Zia abroad," BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said while speaking at a milad and doa mahfil on Wednesday (16 August).

Khaleda was brought to Evercare Hospital on August 9 for health examinations and treatment after becoming ill, and ever since then, she has been getting care in a cabin at the hospital while being closely monitored by medical professionals.

Khaleda has a number of illnesses, including kidney, lung, heart, eye, arthritis, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, and diabetes.

When a lower court found her guilty of graft in the Zia Orphanage Trust case on February 8, 2018, she was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail. On March 25, 2020, the BNP leader was granted executive order release from prison with restrictions due to her advanced age and humanitarian reasons after making a request.
