Principal Motiur Rahman, a seasoned member of the Awami League and a former minister of religious affairs, passed away yesterday as a result of age-related issues. Age-wise, he was 81.

Motiur, a brave liberation warrior and holder of the Ekushey Padak award, passed away at 11:00 p.m. while receiving medical care at Mymensingh's Nexus Hospital.

His wife, one son, and three daughters continue to live.

He was born in 1942 in the hamlet of Akua in the Mymensingh Sadar upazila, and up until his passing, he was a member of the Bangladesh Awami League's advisory council.

In 1986, 1996, and 2008, Motiur was chosen to represent Mymensingh-4 in the parliament. He was chosen to serve as the minister of religious affairs in 2014.

He also served the Mymensingh District Awami League for a considerable amount of time as president and general secretary.

Along with his distinguished political career, he also taught at Nasirabad College in Mymensingh and Nandina College in Jamalpur District.

He established Alamgir Mansur Mintu Memorial College in 1969 and led it as its president till 2002.
