To Go Abroad, Khaleda Has To First Return To Jail: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will have to go to jail again if she goes abroad for treatment.

The Prime Minister made this comment while talking to the American media Voice of America on Saturday (September 30).

The head of government asked, which country in the world has been able to send a convicted person abroad for treatment? Any country in the world will give? If they want, they will have to go to court again. Permission must be obtained from the court. We have no scope to interfere in court proceedings.

The Prime Minister said I have to withdraw the permission that I have given her to stay at home. She has to go back to jail and go to court, and apply to the court. If the court gives a verdict then she can go. This is the reality.

The prime minister made these remarks when Khaleda Zia's younger brother Shamim Iskandar again applied to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (September 25) seeking permanent release and medical treatment abroad. The Home Ministry has sent the application to the Law Ministry for its opinion.
