Syed Abul Hossain, a former lawmaker and Member of Parliament (MP) for Madaripur-3 (Sadar and Kalkini) Constituency and former Communications Minister, passed away.

He breathed his last early Wednesday (October 25) morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.

Syed Sakhawat Hossain, the nephew of Syed Abul Hossain and convener of Dasar Upazila Awami League, confirmed the matter. 

He said that the body of Syed Abul Hossain will be kept in the freezer for the time being. His daughter is out of the country. He will be buried after she returns home. Syed Abul Hossain is survived by two daughters. 

Meanwhile, the death of the former communication minister has cast a shadow of mourning in his constituency. He was the former international affairs secretary of the Awami League.

Born in 1951 at Betgram in Dasar Union of Dasar Upazila in Madaripur, Syed Abul Hossain is a politician and businessman by profession. He was elected MP for Bangladesh Awami League from Madaripur-3 seat in 1991 in the Fifth National Parliament Election. 

He then served as a lawmaker in the seventh, eighth, and ninth parliamentary elections. In 1996, Syed Abul Hossain was the State Minister of LGED of the Awami League government. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Communications Minister of the Awami League government.
