The police have requested two different venues in response to the Awami League's request to conduct a "Peace and Development" rally on the 28th of October near the southern entrance of Baitul Mukarram Mosque. The Awami League formally submitted their request via a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on October 20th.
In return, the police sent a letter, as confirmed by Officer-in-Charge Md Salahuddin of Paltan police station. The Awami League Dhaka South unit Office Secretary, Mohammad Riaz Uddin, acknowledged the receipt of this letter and stated that the final decision on the selection of alternative venues, if necessary, would be made after consultation with central leaders. They intend to respond to the police's letter on Thursday.
The DMP's letter inquired about several details, including the number of participants, event timing, event scale, microphone arrangements, and the potential presence of members from other parties, according to Awami League Office Secretary Mohammad Riaz Uddin. In light of security concerns, the police have also asked for two alternative locations where the gathering could take place if the original site is deemed unsuitable.
The police have requested a prompt response from the Awami League by Thursday. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has also sought permission to hold a significant rally on the same day, the 28th of October, as part of their "one-point movement" to challenge the government in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
