Clashes Between BNP and Police, BGB deployment in Kakrail

Clashes between BNP and police are going on in Kakrail of the capital. The entire area has become a battlefield in the conflict. A clash that broke out between police and BNP activists at the capital's Kakrail intersection this noon spread to Nightingale intersection around 2:00pm today. Meanwhile Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed in the area to control the situation. 

Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB, confirmed that the force was deployed at Kakrail. In this time several places were set on fire. Fire service is working to control the fire in front of Kakrail audit building.Earlier a traffic police box at Kakrail junction was set on fire at around 12:00 am. A vehicle parked in the Institute of Diploma Engineers (IDB) building was set on fire there.

Meanwhile Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) members were seen in front of Kakrail Mosque. They came in four cars.

Since this morning, BNP men gathered near the mosque before joining the party's rally at Nayapaltan. The number of BNP activists at the intersection increased following a clash between BNP and AL men there around 11:30am.

Reported that the clash was ongoing till 1:15pm, when this report was filed. Eyewitnesses said that around 11:30am, AL men on a pickup truck were heading towards Baitaul Mukarram south gate to attend the ruling party's rally.

BNP leaders and activists are marching separately towards Kakrail. Several police and BNP activists were reported injured in the clash. Police are throwing tearshells to control the situation.
