Mirza Fakhrul Detained From Gulshan Residence

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was detained by the police from his home in Gulshan. He was arrested at 9:25 a.m. on Sunday.

Mirza Fakhrul's wife Rahatara Begum told the reporters present, 'Police came and took away all the CC camera devices of the building. The police said that the above order had arrived, and he had to be taken away. I hope the police will return him.'

'At home, the white-clothed policemen, dressed in uniform, first entered the house and spoke. Then they left, but their presence was under the house. Then after 10 minutes they came inside the house again and took him,' she added.

His wife Rahatara Begum also said that Mirza Fakhrul is sick.

When contacted, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan) Mohammad Shahidullah told the media, 'Mirza Fakhrul has been taken to DB.'

Journalists from the scene said that before 9:30, several police cars were seen under Mirza Fakhrul's house in Gulshan-2. Apart from uniformed police, there were policemen in plain clothes.

Later, the BNP Secretary General was taken down by the police in a white microbus.

BNP announced a strike across the country on Sunday after the police removed the leaders and activists from the BNP convention in Nayapaltan yesterday.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said in a statement at night, 'Police and Awami League's planned rampage and armed attack on a peaceful mass meeting is unprecedented and disgraceful. This armed and bloody attack is a reflection of the statements of Awami League leaders and the police since the announcement of the program of the BNP's general meeting.'

Earlier on December 10 last year, BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and member of the party's standing committee Mirza Abbas were taken away from their home in the name of security forces before the BNP convention in Dhaka on December 10.

In the afternoon after the pickup, DB showed them arrested in a case of assault on the police.
