Two Killed In BNP-Police Clash In Kishoreganj

2 men died and at least 30 people, including 15 police personnel, were injured in a clash between BNP activists and police in the Chhaysuti area of Kishoreganj's Kuliarchar upazila this morning.

The deceased are Chhatra Dal leader Shefayet Ullah (20), son of Kawsar of Chhaysuti Union, and Billal Mia (30), president of the same union's Krishak Dal.

Aminul Haque Ashfaq, organizing secretary of the Kishoreganj district unit of BNP said, 'There was a clash between the protesters and the police in Chhaysuti area in the morning. Billal was killed on the spot by the police. Tanay died on the way to the hospital.'

'They died due to police action', he alleged.

Mohammad Rasel Sheikh, superintendent of police in Kishoreganj, said a group of BNP supporters attacked police, triggering the clash at Chhaysuti area in the upazila.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Kishoreganj General Hospital for autopsy.

When asked, the SP could not confirm whether those men were killed in police action.

It would be known after the autopsy report, said the SP.

During the clash, 15 police personnel including the officer-in-charge of Kulirchar Police Station were injured, he said.

They were also given treatment at Kishoreganj General Hospital, the official added.

Witnesses said at least 40 people were injured in the clash.
