Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday (November 15) said that the Election Commission would announce the schedule anytime and, that is why, now there was no scope of holding dialogue with any party.

He said that his party had been telling the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party for a long time that AL would consider if the BNP wanted to hold any dialogue without any pre-condition.

‘But this scope no longer exists,’ he said while responding to questions after a meeting with United States ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas at the secretariat in Dhaka in the morning.

Peter Haas handed over a letter from US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia, Donald Lu, to Quader in a bid to hold a free, fair and fair election in Bangladesh.

After the meeting, the Awami League general secretary said, "US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Donald Lu has sent a letter to me. US ambassador Peter Haas came to hand over the letter to me. I got the letter. Now we can talk about this after discussing with party president Sheikh Hasina.’

He said that he read the one-page letter on holding free, fair and fair elections and that the United States did not support any specific party.
