A fresh development transpired within the Jatiya Party today, as its chief patron, Raushan Ershad, has decided to partake in the upcoming elections within the Awami League-led grand alliance. Simultaneously, the party's general secretary is seeking additional time to reach a decision on this matter.

Raushan, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition, communicated her choice to Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal through a formal letter. In a parallel move, JaPa Chairman GM Quader submitted a letter to the EC, asserting his role as the authorized individual responsible for providing nominations and assigning symbols to the party's candidates in the upcoming 12th national election.

Earlier in the day, JaPa Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu stated that his party would finalize its stance on participation in the polls within the next day or two.

In her letter to the CEC, Raushan explained that JaPa's decision to engage in the election under the alliance aligns with the approach taken in the past three national elections, during which JP participated within the AL-led alliance. She further clarified that JaPa-nominated candidates would have the option to participate in the election either representing JaPa with its symbol, the "plough," or under the grand alliance.

Importantly, she emphasized that this alliance would be strictly viewed as an electoral alliance, and elected candidates of the Jatiya Party would adhere to the party's decisions post-election. The letter, submitted to the EC by Kazi Mamum, acting as Raushan's spokesperson, outlined these key points.
