The ruling Awami League general secretary, Obaidul Quader, slammed the Transparency International Bangladesh executive director Iftekharuzzaman and Citizens for Good Governance - SHUJAN secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar as they were questioning whether the next general election would be participatory.

The AL general secretary, addressing a news briefing at the party president Sheikh Hasina's political office in the capital's Dhanmondi area, wanted to know whether an election could be called ‘not participatory’ while 30 registered political parties, out of 44, were joining the election.

'TIB's Iftekharuzzaman and Badiul Alam Majumdar is talking time and again that the election will not be participatory. If one political party [main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party] does not take part in election, how will it be considered as not participatory?' he said.

He said that 30 registered political parties were taking part in the forthcoming elections.

Quader, also the road, transport and bridges minister informed the media that BNP's 30 former lawmakers, including its 15 central leaders, were taking part in the elections.

'The train of elections is running and it will not stop anywhere. The election will be held on time. Any obstacles will not be able to stop it,' he added.
