The Ganatantra Mancha, alliance of six political parties, on Friday demanded participatory re-election under a neutral government cancelling the ‘farcical January 7 dummy election. As part of their ongoing movement, the Mancha brought out a protest procession and held a rally in front of Meherba Plaza in the capital’s Purana Paltan road, said a press release.

Addressing the rally, leaders of the combine demanded to ensure the participatory re-election by holding dialogue with all political parties after the dissolution of the parliament and urged people to foster the ongoing movement.

The law minister is giving mythic explanation for the constitution, they said, adding that they are running the country by cooking up schemes, including the violation of the constitution through the 15th amendment.

They said that how the ministers’ taking charges after taking oaths would be legal when lawmakers did not take charges after taking oaths.

Terming the Transparency International Bangladesh’s research real scenarios of the election, the leaders said that the government could not ensure the legality of the one-sided, farcical and rigged election at home and aboard by slamming the TIB.

The 90 per cent people of the country gave a mass verdict by boycotting the election and it would turn into a mass movement soon, they said.

The government was making empty sounds against the syndication but it could not touch the syndicate in the past 15 years of its power, they added.

They said that the government was taking away hundreds of crores of money from the people’s pocket through syndication.

Chaired by Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq, Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki and Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum, among others, spoke at the rally.

The Awami League formed the government for the fourth consecutive term after winning 223 seats in the January 7 general election, boycotted by major opposition political parties, including the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist party amid a low turnout and allegations of rigging, violence, ballot stuffing and fake votes.
