A court has granted the bail plea of BNP secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party's standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the case of attack and sabotage on the residence of the chief justice during the clash with BNP during the grand rally on October 28.

Today, Wednesday (February 14), Judge (in-charge) Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, issued this order in court.

Earlier, Their bail plea was rejected in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in this case. Against that order, their lawyer applied for bail in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on February 6. The court fixed February 14 for the hearing.

Before the start of the BNP's grand rally on October 28, clashes with the police took place in Kakrail from noon. After this clash, violence spread to the Vijaynagar area and beyond. At one point, the BNP's grand rally turned into a violent procession. In this clash, a police officer and a ward-level leader of the youth wing were killed. 41 policemen and 25 members of the Ansar were injured. Additionally, at least 20 journalists were injured.

Following this incident, on October 28, Mirza Fakhrul was arrested from his own home in Gulshan by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was later taken to the Chief Justice's residence and then sent to jail for trial in a case of assault and vandalism.

On November 2, at 1 am, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was arrested from a house in Gulshan by the DB. The next day, on November 3, he was arrested in a case filed over the incident of the police officer's death during the political gathering. He was granted a six-day remand in the case. At the end of the remand, on November 9, he was sent to jail.

After the arrest, 11 cases were filed against Mirza Fakhrul and 10 cases against Amir Khasru. They remain on bail in all cases except one, which is still under consideration for bail. If they are granted bail in this case, they will not face any obstacle to their release.
