BNP To Expel 66 More Leaders Over Upazila Polls

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party has decided to expel 66 more grassroots leaders for contesting the second phase of the upazila parishad elections violating party order.

Several BNP leaders told the media on Wednesday that the 66 leaders would be notified of their expulsion within a day or two.

Earlier, the BNP expelled 75 leaders from the party for joining the first phase of the upazila polls.

Many BNP leaders have expressed their interest in joining the third and fourth phase of upazila elections also.

Of the 66 leaders, 29 are contesting for the office of upazila chairman, 20 leaders vice-chairman and 17 for the post of vice-chairman reserved for women.

According to the Election Commission schedule, polling in 161 upazila parishad will be held on May 21 in the second phase.

April 30 was the last day for the withdrawal of nomination papers.

In the first phase, elections to 148 upazila parishads will be held on May 8.
