Holy Ashura on Tuesday

The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), will be observed across the country on Tuesday (Sept 10) with due religious solemnity, reports BSS.

Tuesday is the 10th day of the month of Muharram in the Hijri calendar. Muslims across the world recall the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his family members and 72 followers, who embraced martyrdom in 680 AD for establishing truth and justice in the fight with soldiers of Yazid on Karbala Maidan in Iraq.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages on the eve of the holy Ashura, paying deep respects to Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.

In his message, the President said the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), his family members and his companions in Karbala for upholding the ideals of Islam is remaining as a glorious event in the history.

He said the tragic incident of Karbala inspires us to be vocal against any injustice and repression.

“Islam is a religion of peace and harmony. Here there is no room for confrontation, jealousy, and envy,” President Hamid mentioned.

The President hoped that the lesion of Ashura would be a part of the inspiration of all people to build a society free from superstition, fundamentalism, and militancy and spread the light of truth and beauty in society.

The Prime Minister, in her message, urged all to be imbued with the teachings of holy Ashura to establish truth and justice in all spheres to combat all kinds of injustice in the national life.

She said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and his companions to establish truth and justice in society is a glaring and emulating example for the Muslim Ummah across the world.

Different political, socio-cultural and religious organizations have chalked out various programs to observe the day in a befitting manner.

The programs include a procession, Quran-Khwani, Milad Mahfil, fasting, special prayer and feeding of the destitute.

Tajia processions will be brought from Husaini Dalan in Old Dhaka and other areas in the capital.

Marking the day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken a stringent security measure across the old city’s Hossaini Dalan area for peaceful observance of the holy Ashura.

Imambara Hussaini Dalan area has been brought under foolproof security with installing closed-circuit camera televisions (CCTVs), archways, and none will be allowed to join the procession without the search.

Bags and sharp objects such as knife, sword and blade, explosives, tea flax, pressure cooker, and flagstaff taller than 12 feet will not be allowed in the tazia processions while firecrackers will remain banned during the event.

The day is a public holiday.

Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels will air special programs while newspapers and online news portal publish supplements highlighting the significance of the day.
