A magnificent 132 from opener Brandon King was the difference between the two sides as Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Barbados Tridents by 30 runs at the Providence Stadium in the first qualifier of the Caribbean Premier League.

Guyana opener Brandon took the Tridents attack apart with a blistering 132 not out off just 72 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and 11 sixes as Guyana posted a mammoth 218 for three on the board.

Shakib Al Hasan was expensive this time around after having bowled economically in the last few CPL matches. Shoaib Malik and Brandon hit Shakib for 29 runs -- with four sixes and a four – in the all-rounder’s last over as he finished with figures of 0/46 in four overs.

Alex Hales (36 off 19) started aggressively in chase for the Tridents but he and Shakib (5 off 9) fell in quick time as Tridents failed to get any momentum going. Jonathan Carter (49) and Jason Holder (29) reduced the margin of defeat as Tridents reached 188 for 8 in 20 overs.

Tridents will now play Trinbago Knight Riders in the second qualifier on Oct 10.
