Boston to Host 1st-Ever Virtual Marathon

The first virtual marathon is expected to take place in Boston, Massachusetts, at the beginning of next month.

Like other events, the athletes can race on the road, but in different locations.

Instead of starting up in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and undertaking a long walk to Boston, the runners will be performing this year's marathon alone because of the coronavirus pandemic, reports AP.

Real runners can do a lot of hard work, and an engaging smartphone app would help improve their not-quite-genuine experience. A week-long TV series and a revolutionary ios app highlight their experiences as they travel the way on their own.

Amazon and WBZ-TV are teaming up for the "Boston Marathon Live" show, which will be televised every night from 7 September to 13 September.

The marathon usually takes place on a Monday in April, on Massachusetts' special Patriots Day holiday, but has been delayed until mid-September owing until a pandemic.

Then, at the end of May, it was finally cancelled — the first time in its 124-year existence that the storied event has been abandoned in its conventional style.

Instead, licensed athletes are invited to finish the 26.2-mile (42.2-km) distance by themselves — wherever they are in the world — and post their training, inspiration and execution accounts.
