Diego Maradona: Surgery on Brain Blood Clot Successful

Argentina's legend Diego Maradona has undergone successful brain surgery. His doctor said that.

The winner of the 1986 World Cup, 60, was admitted to the Ipensa clinic in Buenos Aires on Monday, suffering from anaemia and dehydration, reports BBC.

Leopoldo Luque, Maradona's personal physician, said he had "coped well with the surgery".

He will now remain under observation, Dr Luque said, adding that everything was "under control".

Maradona was transferred to the Olivos Clinic in La Plata, where Dr. Luque, who is a neurosurgeon, operated at 20:00 local time (23:00 GMT). It took about 80 minutes to proceed.

Maradona is currently coaching Gimnasia y Esgrima on Argentina's top flight.

He took part in the side game against Patronato on Friday, his 60th birthday.

Supporters of Gimnasia y Esgrima gathered outside the hospital to give messages of support to former Argentina.

Once the result of the operation was announced, a group of fans outside began chanting his name, the Reuters news agency reported.

His former club Napoli, who he helped to two Serie A titles, tweeted a message of support.
