My Innings Will Inspire Youngsters: Mayers

West Indies batsman Kyle Mayers on Sunday said he believed that his valiant double hundred effort would inspire youngsters in coming years.

Debutant Mayers created history as he struck unbeaten 210 runs against Bangladesh to guide his side to a sensational three-wicket victory in a record-galore first match in Chattogram.

Resuming on 110-3 on the fifth day in the chase of massive 395 runs, Mayers anchored the ship of the Caribbean side and took his side to victory in the very last session of the match to give West Indies a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

''It's a great feeling to be playing Test cricket and then going on to score 100, 200 and then to win the match, it's a really special feeling,'' Mayers said after the match.

''I'd like to thank the coach, captain, teammates, coaches and family back home as well. A guy making his debut and scoring a double will definitely inspire youngsters,'' he added.

Mayers got ample support from another debutant Nkrumah Bonner, who made 86 runs, and these two shared a record 216-run stand in the fourth wicket to ensure them a thrilling win.

''I knew I had to push more. It encouraged me to go further,'' said Mayers.
