Ruman Shana and Diya Siddique, both are Bangladeshi archers, expressed optimism in bagging gold in the recurve mixed team final of the ongoing Archery World Cup stage two in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Saturday.

In today's final, the Bangladeshi duo will compete against Gabriela Schloesser and Sjef Van Den Berg of the Netherlands for the first-ever Archery World Cup gold medal for their country.

“We are confident enough to win tomorrow's (today’s) match. I’m grateful to our sponsor City Group. Our training camp has been running under their supervision – a project titled ‘Teer Go for Gold’. Today we may not come here if they won’t sponsor us,” Shana said in a video message.

After defeating Canada by 5-3 set-points in the semifinals of their event on Thursday, the Shana-Diya pair made history by being the first Bangladeshi archers to qualify for an Archery World Cup final.

The Shana-Diya duo had previously defeated ninth-ranked Spain in the quarterfinals by 5-4 set points before defeating top-ranked Germany by 5-1 set points in the second round.

In the opening round of their recurve mixed team event, the 17th placed Bangladeshi duo defeated Iran 5-3 on set points.

Shana's bronze medal in the recurve men's event in the 2019 edition of the same meet in Netherlands was Bangladesh's highest success in an Archery World Cup to yet, and Bangladesh has already surpassed that feat after reaching the final this time.
