Openers Najmul Hossain and Zakir Hasan both hit fifties on Saturday as Bangladesh frustrated India's bowlers on the fourth day of the first Test in Chittagong, reaching 119-0 at lunch.
Set a mountainous 513 runs to win, Najmul was on 64 alongside Zakir on 55 not out, still trailing India by 394 runs, reports AFP.
The duo remained largely untroubled, adding 77 runs in the morning session after the hosts resumed play on 42 without loss.
India had declared their second innings for 258-2 with an hour to play on the third day and was hoping their bowlers would make early inroads.
But Najmul and Zakir batted with grit and courage in Bangladesh's highest-ever opening stand.
Najmul brought up his third Test fifty with a single off Ravichandran Ashwin before a boundary off Mohammed Siraj took the stand into three figures.
Zakir reached his maiden fifty with a single off Axar Patel and soon after survived a strong lbw shout, which India did not review.
