After being placed in a difficult group with three more experienced competitors, Bangladesh hockey will be ready to take on the task of defending its sixth place finish at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

In Pool A, Bangladesh will compete against countries like India, Pakistan, Japan, Uzbekistan, and Singapore. In Pool B, countries like South Korea, Malaysia, China, Oman, Thailand, and Indonesia will be competing.

Bangladesh's sixth-place result at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia matched their previous best performance from 1978. After finishing third in Pool B, while Pakistan and Malaysia won the championship and finished second and third, respectively, and advanced to the semifinals, they were defeated by South Korea in the match that decided fifth place.

If Bangladesh wants to be among the top three teams in Pool A this time around, they will have a difficult battle against Japan, India, and Pakistan. Bangladesh must place fourth in the six-team pool to avoid playing in classification matches for the seventh through eighth spots.

On September 24, the day following the multi-sport event's opening ceremony in Hangzhou, China, Bangladesh will start their campaign against Japan.

Pool A: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Japan, Uzbekistan, Singapore
