Up to five triathletes from Bangladesh will compete in the Ironman World Championship, which gets underway on September 10 in France.

In an Ironman competition, competitors must complete a 2.4-mile (3.86-km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25-km) bike ride, and a marathon run of 26.22 miles (42.20 km), all in that sequence.

Winners of Ironman contests from across the world compete in the Ironman World Championship.

The only guy to compete in the Ironman World Championship, Mohammad Shamsuzzaman Arafat, will attend the event in France after obtaining approval from Bangladesh Bank, where he serves as a Deputy Director.

Mishu Biswas, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of the Detective Branch, DMP, has also been selected to participate in the World Championship on the basis of his performance in Ironman Malaysia last year and Ironman Brazil this year.

Arifur Rahman Belal, a banker like Arafat, will compete in the World Championship. He works for Janata Bank as a Principal Officer.

Bangladesh will be represented in the World Championship by Shuvo Dey, Head of Unit, Commercial at Banglalink, and Pabitra Das, a worker with PWD. The two have competed in a few Ironman events in recent years.
