Bangladeshi top-order batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto will no longer participate in the ongoing Asia Cup competition due to a hamstring
injury. This information was officially announced by the Bangladesh Cricket
Board (BCB) in a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the BCB's statement, Shanto, a left-handed
batsman who posted scores of 89 and 104 in the group stage matches against Sri
Lanka and Afghanistan, began experiencing discomfort in his left hamstring
while batting during the game against Afghanistan in Lahore on Sunday.
To assess the extent of the injury, a magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) scan was conducted on Monday.
Bayjedul Islam Khan, the physiotherapist for the national
team, explained, "The player reported hamstring pain while batting and was
unable to participate in fielding. After an MRI scan, it was confirmed that
there is a muscle tear. As a precautionary measure, Shanto will not be
continuing in the tournament and will return home for rehabilitation in
preparation for the World Cup."
