Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team, has reportedly expressed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he does not wish to lead the national team in the upcoming World Cup in India, which is set to commence on October 5. A source within the BCB informed the media about this.

In a surprising turn of events, Shakib and coach Chandika Hathurusingha held a late-night meeting at the residence of BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon. This meeting took place amid a flurry of rumors circulating in the media. While one might have assumed that the meeting was convened to discuss the World Cup squad, it actually revolved around a different topic altogether.

According to BCB sources, Shakib's decision to step down from the captaincy is motivated by his desire not to have unfit players in the team. This decision appears to be influenced by the current injury status of Tamim Iqbal, and there are indications that Tamim may be included in the World Cup squad, which has further prompted Shakib's decision.

Additionally, a reliable source within the BCB, holding a high position, also confirmed Shakib's intention to relinquish the captaincy.

It has come to light that the BCB has scheduled a meeting later today to finalize the selection decision for the World Cup squad. According to insider information, BCB high-ups are making efforts to persuade Shakib to retain his role as captain for the upcoming World Cup.
