Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the Tigers, has resumed his World Cup performance from where he left off. In today's 2023 campaign opener against Afghanistan in Dharamshala, he led the bowling attack from the front and took three wickets, including the first two Afghan batters, after choosing to field.

This impressive performance contributed to limiting Afghanistan to a meager total of 156 runs.

With this display, Shakib has now accumulated 37 wickets in World Cup matches, surpassing cricket legends such as Imran Khan from Pakistan (34), Brett Lee from Australia (35), and Daniel Vettori from New Zealand (36).

Currently, only two spinners, Muttiah Muralidaran from Sri Lanka (68) and Imran Tahir from South Africa (40), have more World Cup wickets than Shakib.

In the 2019 edition of the tournament, Shakib's exceptional performance made him a standout player as he secured 11 wickets and scored 606 runs in eight matches, solidifying his reputation in World Cup cricket.
