GP Explorer to Unlock Possibilities of the Youth by Upskilling

Grameenphone today launched the GP Explorer platform to upskill and equip young people in Bangladesh to meet the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution as part of the National Youth Day.

"GP Explorer" is a three-month online curriculum designed to train the young minds of selected universities by subject matter experts from GP and industry, according to a press release, reports BSS.  

Selected young people will have access to local and global information partners, along with in-house training materials, for three months as part of Cohort-1.

The GP Explorer platform will concentrate on digital skills, entrepreneurship and communication skills. In Cohort-1, the goal of the program is to put together 300 students from different partner universities across the country.

Virtually, the conference was attended by Mustafa Jabbar, Minister, Post, Telecommunications Division as Chief Guest, along with Md Akhtar Hossain, President, Minister of Youth and Sport, Abul Kalam Azad, Former Chief Secretary and Chief Coordinator (SDGs), Yasir Azman, CEO, Grameenphone, Khairul Basher, Head of Communications, Grameenphone as moderator and Farhana Isl as moderator.

On this occasion, Mustafa Jabbar said “COVID-19 is bringing a massive digital change across the nation, which focuses on the skills gap of the youth and how certain education sector is falling behind. It has become important for us to enhance the next generation’s skills so that they will be able to adapt to new changes that the evolving world is bringing. Hence, we are delighted by Grameenphone’s initiative to bring a youth development platform – GP Explorer – to upskill the youth and prepare them for the future. The initiative will also help the youth to step into a new digital era of Bangladesh quickly.”

Akhtar Hossain said, "The Ministry of Youth and Sport is engaged in a range of initiatives to develop the skills of young people and create more job opportunities for them. We also arranged a variety of training sessions for youth. Subsequently, young people become qualified in human resources. Grameenphone is a positive step forward for youth development that is very inspiring.

Abul Kalam Azad said, "Productivity plays a pivotal role in the positive growth of Bangladesh. In this age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution ( 4IR), young people need to be qualified and equipped to meet the requirements of the labor market. The use of AI technology in various sectors is important to our country's economic growth.

Yasir Azman said, "To overcome the 4IR challenges and opportunities we need to adopt new technologies and skills; to reduce the distance between our current skills and emerging skills needs to keep pace with the rapidly changing business and employment outlook. We believe that GP Explorer, with the support of local and global expertise, can keep Bangladeshi change agents relevant to local and international skill requirements.

Previously, Grameenphone has taken a variety of initiatives on youth development and creativity by harnessing the power of the Internet. These initiatives have encouraged many young entrepreneurs to develop creative products and services for the country. The organization has also been working for the creation of the digital environment in Bangladesh.
