An AI chatbot is a computer program designed to simulate a conversation with a human. It uses natural language processing and artificial intelligence to understand user input and respond in a meaningful way. AI chatbots can be used for customer service, providing personalized recommendations, or other tasks.

Recently an AI chatbot named ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. It is more than a usual chatbot with a huge collection of data and portrays it as a threat to Google. To fight this, Google has announced bringing out their own chatbot named Bard AI. Let's find out the details of Google's AI Chatbot Bard.

What is AI Chatbot Bard?

At present, there is limited information on Google's AI-powered tool, which can only be accessed by those selected as "trusted testers." However, following the company's demonstration of the product in Paris on February 8, we can now provide answers to some of the most frequent questions posed about Bard AI. A public launch of the tool is expected in the near future.

Google Bard is essentially a chatbot that functions using AI, similar to ChatGPT. To enable its conversations, Bard utilizes the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) model. Initially, a less complex version of this language model will be used during the test phase.

Bard strives to bring together the depth of the world's knowledge with intelligence, creativity, and power using Google’s expansive language models. It utilizes data from the Internet to give up-to-date, top-notch results.

Bard can be a catalyst for creativity and a platform for inquiry, assisting you in explaining fresh discoveries from NASA's James Webb Telescope to a nine-year-old, or discover more regarding the best strikers in soccer currently and afterward get drills to enhance your abilities.

How Does Google Bard Work?

Similar to other AI chatbots, Bard has been created to be interactive. Users enter a query or command into a text box, and the AI, Google Bard, will generate a response in a conversational tone.

For instance, if you want to know what discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope you can share with your 9-year-old, simply ask Bard. It will search through the data it has learned and provide you with a few fascinating facts for your child to discover. This example was given by Google, and it brought up a huge controversy as the demo gave wrong information.

This cost them $100 billion in market value. We will discuss the issues later in this article.

Features of Google's AI Chatbot Bard

Currently, we are unaware of the full extent of Bard's capabilities. However, Google has provided us with a few examples of what it can do, such as: arranging a baby shower for a friend, contrasting two movies nominated for an Academy Award, and suggesting lunch options based on the ingredients in your refrigerator.

Apparent Issues with the Demo

In Google’s advertising, Bard was prompted to tell a 9-year-old about the new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Bard replied that the telescope had been used to capture the first image of a planet beyond the Earth's solar system, which is known as an exoplanet. However, NASA has verified that the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope (VLT) took the first pictures of exoplanets in 2004.

Apart from this factual error, Bard might also have some other limitations. Although some features are still missing in comparison to ChatGPT, such as the ability to compose research papers, poems, or code for a basic website, it should be noted that Google has yet to reveal the full capacity of Bard.

Additionally, it appears that the focus of Bard is to support Google Search with more accurate and appropriate results, so it is conceivable that this does not yet include the mentioned functions.

Who Can Access it Now?

Google Bard is yet to be made available to the public - the tech giant is testing it with a select group of "trusted testers.” Both internal and external testing feedback will be utilized to confirm the service is ready for public launch and abides by Google's AI responsibility principles. Google declared that Bard will be available to all after the testing is done.

Other AI Services by Google

Google has been working on many AI projects, several of which are still processing. The tech giant is careful when introducing its AI services to the public, only releasing them once they are confirmed to be performing optimally.

Imagine, an AI image generator is among these products and could potentially rival OpenAI's DALL-E when released. MusicLM, an AI music creator, is another of Google's inventions that it has no plans of disclosing at the moment.

What Motivated Google To Introduce Bard Now?

Google's decision to launch Google Bard came after the remarkable success of ChatGPT, which achieved more than one million users within its first week of release. The rapid adoption of the app was highlighted by an analysis from Swiss bank UBS, which showed that it is the fastest-growing app ever.

This success has prompted other tech companies, such as Google, to capitalize on the trend while it is still popular. This likely influenced Google's decision to introduce Google Bard, which was unveiled just days after Microsoft had released their own AI-improved Bing, which runs on a custom OpenAI large language model.

Final Words

Google has been developing LaMDA for some time, so the sudden revelation of Bard could be seen as a reaction to the rivalry. Google AI chatbot Bard's expansive knowledge base and web access give it an advantageous edge, potentially making it a more efficient chatbot. Soon, searching for answers may be a thing of the past._UNB
