Leeds-based climate tech company C-Capture has appointed the former chief of microchip designer Arm as chair.

Warren East brings nearly four decades of industrial tech experience to the board of C-Capture, including a 12-year tenure as chief executive of Arm.

He then held the CEO role at Rolls-Royce from 2015 to his retirement in December 2022.

C-Capture, which span out of the University of Leeds in 2009, has developed a method to extract the carbon dioxide created by commercial manufacturing from the atmosphere. It can then send this captured CO2 for storage in geological reserves.

“C-Capture’s carbon capture technology has all the elements needed to break through the barriers currently preventing widespread adoption of this critical technology for the world to achieve net zero,” said East.

C-Capture’s technology can be deployed at facilities including power stations, cement plants and hydrogen production facilities, among others.

East’s appointment as chair follows C-Capture securing financial backing from Northern Gritstone, the university spinout-focused investor, as part of a targeted £10m round.

East will support C-Capture’s commercialisation efforts.

“His wealth of experience in commercialising novel technologies along with his commitment to the energy transition is a true asset to the company at a critical period in our growth,” said Tom White, CEO of C-Capture.

“His expertise in successfully scaling and transforming businesses will be invaluable as we move forward with the commercialisation of our unique technology and expand our investor base”._UKTN
