Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Sunday formally inaugurated the 'Highlanders Park & Resort', a modern resort at Thanchi, some 85 kms off from the Bandarban district headquarters.
The 'Highlanders Park & Resort is situated over five acres of land and 1,000 feet above sea level.
Addressing the opening programme, the IGP said that Bangladesh Police is working for the welfare of the country and people. Besides, we are implementing various development projects for the welfare of the police force members and the welfare of the people, the IGP said.
"This resort has been built in Thanchi considering the facilities of the tourists," he said.
The top official of the police force expressed hope that the resort will play an important role in the development of the country's tourism industry.
Bandarban has not yet developed accommodation for tourists. Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust has come forward to solve the accommodation crisis of tourists and the Highlanders Park and Resort with modern facilities has been constructed under the initiative of the trust.
The Resort has various quality VIP Cottages, Honeymoon Cottages, Executive Cottages and Dormitories. The state-of-the-art cafeteria here offers various flavors of mountain food and other food. For the entertainment lovers there is MP Theater. A museum has been constructed here in keeping with the hill culture. Another attractive aspect of the resort is the boating facility from Thanchi to Remakri and Aphiamukh via the Sangu River.
