The Gambia today told the UN’s highest court that Myanmar's promise of initiating repatriation process for the Rohingyas was a blatant fraud.

''Myanmar's claim of a good repatriation process for the Rohingya is a complete fraud,'' the Gambian layers said while placing their evidence of Myanmar’s genocidal intent against the Rohingya minorities.

The lawyers claimed that in fact, Myanmar has efforts to prevent the Rohingya from Bangladesh. ''Myanmar is able but unwilling to change the situation in Rakhine for the safe return of the Rohingya,'' a lawyer for the Gambia said.

''Myanmar's existing discriminatory policies including denial of citizenship, the process of National Verification Card, land confiscation, restrictions on marriages, birth and freedom of movement -- all constitute genocidal intent,'' he said.

The lawyers were placing their arguments against Myanmar’s denial of genocidal intent against Rohingyas at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on the final day of the hearing.

A 17-member panel of judges of ICJ was hearing a case, the first international legal attempt to bring Myanmar to justice over alleged mass killings of the Rohingya minorities in 2017, filed by the Gambia on November 11.
