Nepal's Prime Minister in Hospital to Get kidney Transplant

The famous communist prime minister of Nepal is in the hospital undergoing his second kidney transplant following months of illness.

Khadga Prasad Oli, 69, was admitted to the Teaching Hospital of Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu on Monday evening. He said in a video message to the people the operation will be carried out on Wednesday.

Local media claim Oli is giving a kidney to a friend. Nepal's laws require the participation of a donor and beneficiary, and no monetary exchange.

Oli has suffered from kidney disease for a long time and has made several trips for treatment to India and Thailand.

He underwent his first kidney transplant in 2007 in New Delhi.

Oli became prime minister in 2018 after sweeping parliamentary elections by the Communist alliance. He has worked as prime minister in 2015 and was four times elected to parliament.
