COVID-19 Infections in Japan Rise to 568, Death Toll at 31

Japan's Ministry of Health and local governments said the amount of COVID-19 infections rose by one on Tuesday to 568 people in Japan at 10:30 a.m. local time here.

Of the 568 confirmed cases in Japan, not including those linked to the previously quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama, the bulk are in Hokkaido's northernmost prefecture in Japan, which has recorded 111 cases and declared a state of emergency.

According to the health ministry, the death toll from the outbreak in Japan currently stands at 31, with the number including those of the Diamond Princess.

However, Aichi Prefecture has 99 confirmed cases, Osaka 73, Tokyo 67, Kanagawa 43 and Hyogo Prefecture has confirmed 25 COVID-19 infections according to the most recent statistics from the Ministry of Health and local authorities.

The Ministry of Health said 31 people are currently considered to be severely ill and are on ventilators with respiratory support or have been transferred to medical treatment intensive care units. The ministry also said a total of 427 patients have been released from hospitals after resolving their symptoms.
