Number of Coronavirus Positive Cases Rises to 151 in India

The number of people infected withCovid-19 coronavirus disease has shot up to 151 in the country after four more people were reported from different parts of the country, said the Union Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Out of these 151 people, 126 are Indians and 25 are foreigners, the Ministry said.

Giving a state-wise breakdown of the number of positive Covid-19 cases, health ministry data said Maharashtra is at the top with 42 registered Covid-19 cases followed by Kerala (27), Uttar Pradesh (16) and Karnataka (11) cases.

More than 5,700 people who had come into touch with such positive cases are under close monitoring, the ministry added.

Until now, Delhi has registered 10 successful cases including one foreigner.

According to government data, 14 people have been discharged so far, including the three patients from Kerala who were discharged last month.

More than 11,500 people were globally infected with the novel coronavirus, taking the overall number of reported cases past 179,000, the World Health Organisation said Tuesday in its latest update on the coronavirus situation.

A number of 475 people died of Tuesday's infection, raising the global death rate to 7,426, the study said. In India, the infection killed three people.

According to a further travel advisory, the government on Tuesday barred passenger entry from Afghanistan, Philippines, and Malaysia to India with immediate effect.

With a number of cases of coronavirus increasing in the region, the government also barred passenger entry from the countries of the European Union, Turkey and the United Kingdom from March 18 until March 31.
