Coronavirus: India to Extend Nationwide Lockdown

India will extend the strict national lockout imposed last month to avoid coronavirus spread, says the top official.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a video conference with state ministers on Saturday, and several of them urged the government to expand the initiative.

Delhi's Chief Minister said that Mr. Modi had decided to continue the lockdown, scheduled to end on Tuesday, without providing any information.

It comes in the midst of questions over how the lockout affected the poorest nations.

The spread of the virus has been varied in India with some states seeing bigger jumps in cases, despite the shutdown. Millions of migrant workers have been left jobless with the poorest suffering most.

India has confirmed about 8,504 infections and 289 deaths till Sunday, worldometer reported
