According to an AFP tally Thursday at 1030 GMT from official reports, the coronavirus has killed more than 90,000 people in Europe, more than 65 percent of the global death toll.

With a total of 90,180 deaths from some 1,047,279 infections, Europe is the pandemic's hardest-hit continent, which has killed a total of 137,499 people worldwide.

The highest number of deaths has been reported in Italy at 21,645 and Spain at 19,130, followed by France at 17,167 and Britain at 12,868.

Globally, the number of infections recorded is 2,083,551.

Nevertheless, the number of cases reported only represents a percentage of the actual number of infections, with certain nations reporting only certain cases needing emergency treatment.

The numbers are collected using data collected by AFP from national authorities and details from the World Health Organization (WHO).
