India's COVID-19 Cases Surpass 80,000 Mark, Deaths Rise to 2,649

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India reached 81,970 and the number of deaths climbed to 2,649 on Friday, according to official data from the Federal Ministry of Health.

The Ministry said 100 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides new 3,967 positive cases have been reported since Thursday in the country.

"As at 8:00 a.m. (local time) Friday, 2,649 deaths related to the novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the Ministry.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the country on Thursday morning was 78.003 and the death toll was 2.549.

According to Ministry sources, 27,920 citizens have been discharged from hospitals for improvement.

"The number of active cases in the country currently is 51,401," reads the information.

Friday marks the 52nd straight day of the current Lockdown around the world declared by the central government to avoid the spread of the pandemic.

The Lockdown declared on 25 March, was extended for the second time on 1 May until 17 May.
