Delhi to Re-Open Borders As India Relaxes Nationwide Lockdown

The borders of India's national capital will reopen on 8 June, one week after they were closed in an attempt to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, announced that the regional government had decided to expand its borders with the neighboring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

Delhi will also allow shopping malls, restaurants, and places of worship to resume business with certain social distancing guidelines as issued by the central government, added Kejriwal.

While many businesses have reopened, the Delhi government has decided to keep hotels and guest houses closed to visitors and guests in the wake of increasing coronavirus cases in the city, Kejriwal said. The government will use these facilities as a temporary hospital if cases of Covid-19 increase, the Chief Minister added.

The Delhi Government has also decided to reserve the hospitals operated by the state government and the capital's private hospitals to the citizens of Delhi, thus authorizing all central government hospitals to accept people from all over the country.
