COVID-19: France Quarantine Starts after Race to Beat Deadline

Thousands of British vacationers took the last minute to get home before the 14-day quarantine requirement came into force for people coming from France.

The isolation measure also applies to the Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Turks and Caicos, and Aruba, in the context of an increasing number of cases involving COVID.

Eurotunnel trains sold out and airfares were up to six times more than normal, but ferries increased capacity, BBC reported.

France warned of "reciprocal measures".

Countries were targeted for quarantine restrictions because their rates of infection exceeded 20 cases per 100,000 people over seven days, said Transport Secretary Grant  Shapps.

Approximately 160,000 British vacationers were reported to be in France when the changes were announced, and the deadline left many travelers in a frantic rush for airline, train or ferry tickets costing hundreds of pounds.
