Nepal Extends Flight Suspension

Nepali decided to extend the suspension of domestic and international flights as well as public transport until 31 August amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement arrived on Monday as the Himalayan nation observed the re-emergence of the Covid-19 incidents, reports Xinhua.  

The almost four-month lockdown was lifted on July 22, and the people's protest in the country was eased.

Nepal's finance and communications minister, Yubaraj Khatiwada, told That Nepal, a government-owned newspaper, that domestic and foreign airlines, as well as all public transport, will be suspended until 31 August.

An aide to a minister also confirmed the cabinet's decision to Xinhua.

On 20 July, the Nepalese Cabinet voted to restart domestic and foreign flights, which had been suspended since 22 March, 17 August, together with the decision to remove the lockdown.

Earlier, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal announced that flights will continue to be suspended.

The Nepali government has also decided to enforce strict surveillance in the border areas and in Kathmandu Valley to monitor the human movement.
