COVID-19 Cases in India Near 3.8 mln

India has reported 78,357 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, raising the country's number to 3,769,523 since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the latest data released by the Federal Ministry of Health, the death toll of Covid-19 increased to 66,333 on Wednesday, with 1,045 deaths registered across the country over the last 24 hours, Xinhua reports.

There are still 801,282 open cases around the world, while 2,901,908 patients have been successfully treated and released from hospitals.

According to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 44,337,201 tests were carried out until Tuesday, while 1,012,367 tests were carried out on Tuesday alone.

This was the fourth time in the world that more than one million samples were checked in a single day.

India has joined Unlock 4 with an impact from Tuesday. Fresh instructions to be observed at Unlock 4 were released last Saturday.

According to the latest guidelines released, schools will stay closed until September, despite the fact that students aged 9-12 have been permitted to attend classes.

Metro Rail services would be required to begin on a phased basis from Sept. 7 and civic meetings or other congregations would be required with a limit of 100 persons from Sept. 21.
