Global COVID-19 Cases Surge Past 34 mn

According to the latest tally provided by Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the reported coronavirus case load worldwide crossed 34 million on Friday morning.

The JHU data indicates that a total of 34, 200, 662 people in 188 countries have been diagnosed with the virus so far, while the total death toll from the virus has reached 1, 021, 709.

With 7,277,591 cases and 207,791 deaths, the United States posted the highest caseload and death toll worldwide.

The overall number of confirmed cases reached 6,312,584 in India, the second worst virus-hit region.

India reported 86,821 new cases of coronaviruses and another 1,181 fatalities on Thursday, making September its worst pandemic month, reports AP.

As of Friday, the South Asian country registered 98,678 deaths from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, in the midst of concerns of a revival of the virus, many European countries are registering a growing number of daily cases.

In addition, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged all countries and partners to take substantial measures to provide much-needed new and additional support over the next three months, to mobilize all partners and to place everyone behind the global response to the Covid-19 vaccine initiative.
