Global COVID-19 Cases Surpass 45 Million

Global confirmed cases of Covid-19 surpassed 45 million on Saturday, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The data shows that the Covid-19 cases reached 45,477,552 and 1,187,023 more fatalities reported until this morning, reports UNB.  

The total number of cases in the United States exceeded 9 million on Friday, a record high one-day total since the start of the country's pandemic. Total cases were over 9,036, 678 as of Saturday.

It took just 14 days for the world to add one million new cases from 8 million to 9 million, the fastest since the outbreak of the pandemic.

As the cases and deaths have skyrocketed across the United States in recent days, the country has recorded 88,521 news cases with 971 news deaths.

Besides, Brazil's COVID-19 cases surpassed  5,494,376, while its death toll rose to 158,969 after another 513 fatalities were reported, said JHU data.

Brazil registered 26,106 new cases in the last 24 hours, shows the data.

Brazil ranks second in the world in the number of disease deaths, just behind the United States, and third in the number of cases, after the United States and India.

In India, 8,088,851 cases were reported until Saturday morning, while the overall death toll from Covid-19 rose to 121,090.

The country reported 48,648 new confirmed cases and 563 deaths on Friday.

Besides, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “Governments should focus on tackling the virus and avoid politicization.”

He called on countries to continue investing in the health system and the workforce, and to strengthen the testing, tracing and care of all cases.

The WHO Leader said this at a meeting of the WHO Emergency Committee on Covid-19 on Friday.

Bangladesh Coronavius situation

Bangladesh on Friday reported 1,604 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total caseload to 406,364.

Meanwhile, 19 more patients died from Covid-19, taking the fatalities to 5,905.

So far, 322,703 patients (79.41 percent) have recovered -- 1,422 in the last 24 hours.

The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.45 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on September 22.
