US Election 2020

Why Do Different News Sites Have Different Tallies?

You can well be confused if you see different tallies at the top of the live coverage from different news sites.

With 99 percent of the votes counted, Biden currently has a lead in Wisconsin of just over 20,000 over Donald Trump. The above assertion now covers the state's 10 electoral college votes, reports BBC.

However, BBC results maps do not show Wisconsin for Biden. This is because they are powered by data from polling firm Edison Research, supplied through Reuters, which does the field work for the exit polls and works in the National Election Pool with US networks.

Since the margin between Biden and Trump is less than one percentage point, Edison Research has not forecast a result for Wisconsin, meaning a candidate will request a recount.

The condition is now expressed by BBC forecasts that Joe Biden is the presumptive winner in Wisconsin. We will announce that and the outcome if a recount takes place-and if appropriate, we will alter our forecasts accordingly.

You may have noted that several other news websites are also predicting a victory for Biden in Arizona, giving him an additional 11 votes from the electoral college. The BBC finds the situation too early to project, again in line with CBS.

With 86% of the vote in Arizona counted, Biden currently has a lead of about 68,000 - or 2.3% - over Trump.
