Global COVID-19 Cases Top 62.6 Million

According to Johns Hopkins University, the total number of global coronavirus cases surpassed 62.6 million on Monday.

In addition, more than 1.45 million deaths have risen, data shows.

The total number of Covid-19 cases worldwide reached 62,677,879 with 1,458,360 deaths, reports UNB.

Covid-19 has hit 191 countries since the first cases were reported from China in December last year.

The US has recorded 13,376,113 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and the country's deaths have risen to 266,838.

According to university reports, the number of new COVID-19 cases registered in the United States surpassed 200,000 for the first time on Friday. Since January, when the first infections were identified in the U.S., the nation's total number of cases has exceeded 13 million. More than 265,000 people have died, AP reports.

The nation's top infectious disease expert said on Sunday that the U.S. may see a coronavirus surge in the weeks after Thanksgiving, and does not expect the latest social distancing guidelines to be relaxed before Christmas.

India ranks second in cases at 9,392,919, while the country's death toll has risen to 136,696.

Brazil registered 172, 833 deaths while the country’s total caseload reached 6,314,740 as of Monday.

The countries with a death toll above 20,000 are Mexico with 105,459 deaths, the UK with 58,342, Italy with 54,904, France with 52,410, Iran with 47,874, Spain with 44,668 and Russia with 39,127.
