Trapped Chinese Miners' Note Sparks Hopes for Rescue

Rescuers claim that after an explosion in a Chinese gold mine a week ago, 12 miners trapped underground are still alive.

State media claims that seven days after the crash, the staff managed to send a note to rescuers, reports BBC.

It remains uncertain the fate of another 10 miners missing after the blast.

Mining incidents are not rare in China and are mostly attributed to safety laws that are poorly implemented.

The 22 were trapped on 10 January at the Hushan mine near Yantai in the province of Shandong in eastern China, after an explosion destroyed the mine's exit and communications system, which was still under construction.
