Fear of a new type of coronavirus, Omicron, detected in South Africa, has spread around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the type as worrisome.

Meanwhile, India declared 13 countries, including Bangladesh, at risk after a man arrived in Maharashtra from South Africa was identified with the virus on Sunday (November 26).

A new rule issued by the Indian Ministry of Health declares Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel as at risk.

Travelers staying in transit in these countries will have to undergo RT-PCR test on arrival in India. Passengers will be able to leave the airport only after the test results are negative. The test results must be negative even before catching any other connecting flight.

Travelers' positive coronavirus test results will actually be sent their in isolation. If they affected by the Omicron variant, they have to stay there until the result is negative. However, if they are affected by any variant other than Omicron, they will be given clearance according to their physical condition and doctor's advice.

According to the Hindustan Times, it is not yet certain whether the man came from South Africa was infected with Omicron.
