Global Covid Cases Top 634 Million

The overall number of global Covid-19 cases has now crossed 634 million.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 634,610,959 while the death toll from the virus reached 613,599,413on Friday morning, reports UNB.

The US has recorded 99,281,954 cases so far, while 1,094,596 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.

According to federal health ministry data released on Thursday morning, 1,625 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,648,505.

The cases reported on Tuesday marked a decrease in comparison with the daily caseload of 1,334 on Monday.

The country also logged one new Covid-related death in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 528,987 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Covid in Bangladesh

Bangladesh reported another Covid-linked death and 137 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.

The new figures pushed the country's total fatalities to 29,417 and the caseload to 2,034,866, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case test positivity rate dropped to 3.60 per cent from Wednesday's 5.01 per cent as 3,804 samples were tested during the period.

The latest deceased was a woman from Mymensingh division.

The mortality and recovery rates remained unchanged at 1.45 per cent and 97.27 per cent respectively.
