Five people were killed and eight more were hurt, according to the authorities, when a Cessna 208 plane collided with a hangar at a skydiving facility on Monday.

The pilot of the plane and four other people who were seeking shelter from the storm in the hangar perished in the afternoon crash in Chrcynno, central Poland, according to Monika Nowakowska-Brynda, a spokesperson for the firemen.

Eight more individuals were hurt, two of them critically, according to the police. According to provincial governor Sylwester Dabrowski, one of the injured was a youngster.

The distance between Chrcynno and Warsaw is around 45 kilometers (28 miles).

The injured were transported to hospitals in the Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki region by firefighters and airborne ambulances.

Katarzyna Urbanowska, another representative for the local firefighters, claimed that rescuers were still searching the hangar for other victims.

Prosecutors and police were investigating the cause of the accident.

It was the worst accident related to sky diving in Poland since 2014, when 11 people were killed in a crash of a small plane in Topolow, near the southern city of Czestochowa.
